ISVR Consulting is one of the UK’s leading centres of expertise in noise and vibration. We are linked to the internationally renowned Institute of Sound and Vibration Research at the University of Southampton.
We work with a wide range of industrial and commercial clients, public bodies, and government agencies in the UK and Europe.
Collaboration
Being part of a University gives us access to a unique set of resources, including facilities and expert knowledge. We work with leading academics to bring real-world context to their research, and in-turn to leverage this research for our clients’ needs.
Our history
An example of pioneering university-industry collaboration, ISVR Consulting – originally known as the Industrial Noise Unit – was formed in 1968. The Rayleigh Building, which houses the anechoic and reverberant test chambers, was completed in the same year and became the Unit’s permanent home.
In its early days, an award of £30,000 from the Wolfson Foundation enabled the Unit to employ a manager and administrator, and to buy laboratory equipment and vehicles. It grew rapidly, with seven consultants and six technical assistants and administrative staff by 1970.
While our name has changed and our structure has evolved during our history, our founding aim remains: “…to provide, through consultation, assistance to private, industrial, commercial and governmental bodies in resolving problems concerning noise and vibration.”
